KAUAI OLD TIME GATHERING

Old time music and culture in the heart of Kōkeʻe State Park

important information

The Kauai Old Time Gathering takes place at Kōkeʻe State Park in the mountains on the westside of the beautiful island of Kauai. The hub of our festival and our gracious host is Kōkeʻe Lodge, a historic restaurant, bar, coffee shop and gift shop.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFOrmation

We hope that our guests can appreciate the unique opportunity it is to be able to stay in the stunning environment of  Kōkeʻe State Park. This is a rare and valuable treasure. That being said, the remote location comes with certain inconveniences.

WEATHER

Kōkeʻe State Park is at an elevation of nearly 4000 feet. Weather is variable and unpredictable. Expect rain and cold. We are very close to Mount Waiʻeleʻele, known as the "wettest spot on earth". Many visitors to Hawaii are not prepared for real mountain weather. The temperature will nearly always be 20 degrees cooler than at the beach. Plan for about 40-70 degrees F, with occasional colder snaps.

FIREWOOD

The only heat sources are wood burning stoves and fireplaces. No open fires and no collecting of firewood. Fires must be contained to woodstoves, fireplaces and designated fire pits. Firewood will be available for sale at Kōkeʻe Lodge.

CELL PHONES

There is no cell phone service in the park and no wifi. There is a pay phone and a landline available at Kōkeʻe Lodge.

BOOZE N SMOKING

There is no smoking or alcohol allowed in the park. Kōkeʻe Lodge sells beer, wine and liquor that may only be consumed inside the restaurant.

WATER

There is ample safe drinking water.

ACCOMODATIONS & WHAT TO BRING

Accommodations are rustic. There will be kitchens, showers and toilets available. Those staying in beds must bring all your own bedding. You can rent a bedroll from us here. For those camping, you must bring your own tent and bedding. Rain gear and warm clothes are a must. The cold and wet up here cannot be emphasized enough. A headlamp or flashlight is advised.

THE WILD!

The area is densely forested and thus expect mountain critters and foliage. There are many wild boar, deer, goats and chickens in the park as well as some of the rarest forest birds endemic to Kauaʻi. Expect fallen trees, mud and slick, rocky and unstable ground. Also expect rats, cats, insects and spiders.

FOOD

The nearest services are in Waimea, 16 miles down a steep and winding mountain road. Food will be available everyday 10am-4pm at Kōke’e Lodge as well as during nighttime events.

TRASH

THIS IS ZERO WASTE EVENT. Kōkeʻe is a sacred place and we are blessed to be able to appreciate it. PICK UP ALL OF YOUR TRASH. LEAVE EVERY SITE CLEANER THAN WHEN YOU ARRIVED.

CHECK-IN & PARKING

If you are driving, park at Kokeʻe Lodge. There will be a check-in tent outside of the lodge where someone will direct you to your accommodations and where you will pick up your wristband that grants you access to all the workshops and performances. There is NO PARKING AT CCC CAMP.

FROM Kōkeʻe CABINS:

"There are many who feel the Kōkeʻe Experience is paralleled by no other. Hiking temperatures are perfect. Access is as easy as it could be. The visual rewards are simply spectacular. Combine this with the cultural heritage of such a place and you have the makings of a deep experience thick with wonder and spirituality.

Waimea Canyon, on Kauai's West Side, is described as "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Although not as big or as old as its Arizona cousin, you wonʻt encounter anything like this geological wonder in Hawaii. Stretching 14 miles long, one mile wide and more than 3,600 feet deep, the Waimea Canyon Lookout provides panoramic views of crested buttes, rugged crags and deep valley gorges. The grand inland vistas go on for miles.

North of Waimea Canyon on Kauaʻiʻs West Side is Kōkeʻe State Park. Spread over 4,345 acres on a plateau 3,200 to 4,200 feet above sea level, Kōkeʻe State Park is covered in forest, wild flowers and hiking trails making it an excellent spot to see native plants and colorful endemic Hawaiian forest birds like the apapane, iwi and moa. The park also offers roughly 45 miles of the state's finest hiking trails. Some trails lead to views of Waimea Canyon, others wind through wet forests with sweeping views of valleys opening up to the North Shore.”
